Abstract
The application of water pressure test with a monotonous pressurization is examined to reduce the cost for dam foundation grouting. The water pressure test in its conventional form is conducted with increasing and decreasing pressure steps, i.e. a stepwise pressurization. The water pressure test with a monotonous pressurization, which a new form for a water pressure test, is conducted by increasing and decreasing without pressure steps. In this paper, we made a saturated-unsaturated seepage analysis to simulate the water pressure tests with a monotonous pressurization in an unsaturated area above a groundwater table. And we introduced a case history of the water pressure tests with a monotonous pressurization in order to verify their accuracy. Based on the results of a case history and numerical simulation, we will summarize remarks on performance and result evaluation of the water pressure tests with a monotonous pressurization.
