Abstract

The Sashikubo dam is a rock-fill dam, being constructed by Aomori prefecture, whose foundation on the right side bank is a thick Quaternary formation. The geological formation shows high permeability, but it was found that ordinary grouting works are not applicable due to the geological characteristics. This paper will introduce a course of study on selection of foundation treatment, best suited for unconsolidated foundation of Sashikubo dam. The first alternative was to construct concrete underground continuation wall; however, it was changed to soil-cement underground continuation wall, which is less costly and will acclimate with the soils.
