Abstract
An advanced construction controlling system for construction of fill dams has been developed and implemented in two projects: (1) the upper regulating reservoir of the Kyogoku Power Station sponsored by Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc. and (2) the upper dam of the Omarugawa Power Station sponsored by Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. This report presents the system based on an application of 3-dimensional CAD and information technology for construction of large-scale asphalt concrete faced fill dams having complex shapes. There has been a demand for a more efficient method of constructing such kind of dams, and through practical application in the two projects, the effectiveness of the newly developed system has been demonstrated for: (1) excavating and filling the embankments, roads and other structures; (2) laying out paving lanes for the asphalt concrete facing; and (3) testing the strength of bedrock.
