Abstract
The quarry of Hiyoshi Dam is planned to be located at the site which has some layers of sandstone originated in the Mesozoic Era with plenty of thickness. After geological survey in detail, it was found that the site also had some layers of shale with same thickness alternately.
Shale has been rarely used for aggregate of concrete for dams because of its shape and soundness of manufactured particles. But after some tests and examinations executed from a viewpoint of effective utilization of aggregate, it was certified that the shale could be used for coarse aggregate of internal RCD concrete.
Some physical and chemical properties of aggregate made of sandstone and shale were tested and the properties of the concrete using those aggregates were also examined. The results are shown in this paper.
