The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristic properties of an injection-type alginate impression material. The strain-in-compression, elastic recovery, tear strength, and tensile bond strength of the base alginate impression material were compared with those of agar impression materials.
The elastic strain of the injection-type alginate impression material was similar to that of the agar impression materials, while the elastic recovery was not significantly different between the two types of materials. Alternatively, the tear and bond strengths of the alginate impression material were significantly higher than those of the agar impression materials. These findings indicate that the injection-type alginate impression material might be more effective in clinical settings.
