Abstract

A model satellite “CanSat” is an observation device equipped with a compact computer board and sensors in a commonly available can. We developed a mission planning CanSat kit which students can select several sensors from more than 10 sensors. In this study, we improved our CanSat kit and course design. Improved CanSat kits were used in the CanSat production course of the KOSEN Space Camp in 2017, where the KOSEN students produced original CanSats and did drop test from the balloon. All six groups completed CanSat production during the course and some of the groups achieved high-level data analysis. Course design and follow-up utilizing a system that motivates students, is an effective strategy for PBL (Project Based Learning) education activites.
