For environmental disinfection, a few medical facilities use commercially available spray nozzles attached to ethanol disinfectant products or refill commercially available spray containers with ethanol disinfectants. There are concerns about microbial contamination by airborne bacteria falling during spray nozzle and disinfectant ethanol refills, but no studies have reported contamination. Therefore, we investigated the microbial contamination of ethanol for disinfection in 16 spray containers at three facilities in Nagasaki Prefecture that use ethanol for disinfection products with spray nozzles attached and refill the spray containers with ethanol for disinfection. No microbial contamination was observed in any container.
