Abstract
We retrospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy(LDN)in our institution. One hundred fifty five kidney donors were enrolled in this study. The donors were divided into two groups according to operative time period:Group A(n=60), 2001-2006 and Group B(n=95), 2007-2014. There is no significant difference in age, gender, body mass index or laterality of donated kidney between the two groups. While mean operative time was similar between two groups, mean warm ischemia time in Group A was longer than Group B(346 sec vs 298 sec;p = 0.0027). Out of 155 donors, 6 complications were observed:2 open conversions(1.3%), 1 ileus required surgery(0.6%)and 3 delayed graft functions(1.9%). All of these complications occurred in Group A, and none in Group B. LDN is a safe and effective procedure after achieving a stable surgical strategy and technique due to the institutional learning curve.
