Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of nurse-led checklist for nutritional management in emergency medical care center.

Methods: A weekly nurse-led round using the nutrition checklist was implemented. The nutritional state was assessed based on the 4 categories that are nutritional condition, hydration, defecation and laboratory data. The results were evaluated with physicians and flawlessly reflected to the treatment regimen. The effects of the modifications were assessed in the next round.

Results: 235 nutritional assessments were conducted for 125 patients. The assessment by the checklist resulted in the alteration of the cares: 46.4% (109/235) for nutritional condition, 25.1% (59/235) for hydration, 20.4% (48/235) for constipation and 6.0% (14/235) for diarrhea.

Conclusion: The nurse-led nutritional checklist could be a useful method to enhance an efficient nutritional management in emergency medical care center.
