Effectiveness of a simulation-based trauma care training course for junior residents at a community hospital

Abstract

Background: Since 2015, Kurashiki Central Hospital has offered an annual training course for first-year residents, teaching them how to provide initial trauma care. We surveyed all participants to evaluate the usefulness of the course.

Methods: We administered a questionnaire to residents who participated in one of the 11 sessions held from 2015 to 2025. We asked the following questions using a five-point scale: “Were you satisfied with the course content?”, “Was the course content useful for your clinical practice?”, and “Do you feel you can lead a trauma team?”

Results: Responses were collected from 323 out of 335 participating trainees. Regarding satisfaction with the course content and its usefulness for clinical practice, all respondents either strongly or somewhat agreed.

Conclusion: The survey results suggest that residents would find a unique trauma care training course at a community hospital useful.
