Abstract
There are much limitations for machining the ceramic materials which are known as the hard machinable material by mechanical procedures on the problems of the machined shapes and machining time and so on. However the electrical discharged machining (EDM) method is useful for machining the high hard material such as a hard metal, it had been impossible to machine almost of the ceramics except of the a few special methods, because of the insulated properties of their own.
As the purpose of this paper is to develop the new machining method for the insulating ceramics by normal conventional EDM machine, three types of procedure are proposed. Insulating ceramics could be machined by the proposed methods, so the machining procedures and characteristics were explained and the machining mechanism were discussed. of normal polarity discharge.
(4) The electrode wear and the surface finish in EDM with kerosine type fluid become larger with increasing the ratio of normal polarity discharge.
