The selection of machining electrode suitable for the discharge machining circuits becomes more important as development of the circuits advances.
The carbon based materials are regared as favorably suitable electrode in terms of workability, formability and economy.
The paper deals with machining characteristics of the carbon based electrode.
RC circuit and pulse (SCR) circuit were used. Experiment were performed with ordinary repeated discharge, and special emphasis laid upon removal rate, electrode wear ratio, stability of discharge, roughness of machining surface. Approx, hundred scores of kinds carbon based materials were employed for experiments which are commercially available from fifteen companies for various and electric discharge machining electrode use.
Summarizing the above, especially in rough machining stage carbon based materials commercially available for uses other than the electrode can be used as the discharge machining electrode.
