Abstract

The first stone-free rate of 1,739 patients who received ESWL monotherapy was 44.4%, and the final stone-free rate was 78.9%. The complications of ESWL were pyelonephritis (3.7%), stone street (1.3%), sepsis (0.4%), septic shock (0.4%) and subcapsular hematoma (0.3%). Risk factors associated with stone-free rate at ESWL were stone size 1 cm or greater (p<0.0001), lower calyx stone (p<0.0001) and 70 years old or older (p=0.0008). In cases that did not include these predictors, the first stone-free rate was 58.4%, and the final stone-free rate was 90.1%. Impacted stones accounted for 36.0% in cases where TUL was performed additionally after ESWL 4 times or more, and the number of ESWL was considered to be up to 3 times.
