Abstract

The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare mini-PCNL with and without a suction system to determine the usefulness of vaccume-assisted percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). Sixty patients who underwent mini-PCNL for renal stones at the Osaka General Medical Center were divided into PCNL va (+) group (n=32) : patients who were operated with a suction sheath and PCNL va (-) group (n=28) : patients who were operated without suction sheath. The stone free rate (SFR) in the first operative day was 68.8% in the PCNL va (+) group, which was significantly higher than that of the PCNL va (-) group (28.6%) (p<0.01). Complication rates were 6.3% in the PCNL va (+) group and 17.9% in the PCNL (-) group. Vaccume-assisted mini-PCNL was considered to be an effective method for reducing complications and achieving a high SFR.
