Abstract

A 79-year-old man. A close examination of repeated hematuria revealed a large 177-mL benign prostatic hyperplasia. Surgical treatment was considered, but was not feasible because he was unable to achieve an adequate lithotripsy position due to limited leg opening caused by right upper and lower extremity paralysis. He had frequent urinary retention due to bladder tamponade caused by hematuria due to benign prostatic hyperplasia, so transurethral steam therapy using Rezum® was performed. The patient was able to void urine without urinary catheter.

Transurethral hydrotherapy may be an effective treatment for large benign prostatic hyperplasia at high risk patients.
