Abstract

This study evaluated the economic feasibility of installing 0 - 20 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS) with 2 types of control (minimum purchase power or electric charge) for a residential load with existing 3 - 10 kW PV in Hamamatsu under rising electric charges. The results show that additional BESS installations are not yet profitable, but that profits can be obtained in the case of large-capacity PV such as 10 kW is installed and replace with a BESS of optimal capacity at the end of PCS life time. Moreover, minimum purchase power control with meter rate lighting is more economical than the other control.
