Abstract

This study focuses on the enhancement of the performance of liner CPCs (Compound Parabolic Concentrator). A past study examined a CPC with extended outer wings experimentally, which design was not necessarily optimized. The outer wings are part of parabolic surfaces of CPC which is normally truncated at the focal point. Therefore, the objective of this study is to optimize the length of the outer wings. Ray tracing simulation was employed to analyze the optical performance of the concentrators. According to the sensitivity analysis in terms of the outer wing length, the results indicate that the same length as the aperture of CPC is optimal from the viewpoint of collection efficiency.
