Abstract

Aiming at understanding more efficient and cleaner combustion of woody biomass, and providing the combustor that emit less carbonous harmful substance such as carbon monoxide and soot, the author is investigating methods to burn a candle, that is composed of more simple constituents resin, under the earth’s gravity at ordinary temperature and atmosphere pressure. In the course of this study, the author found the method to burn a candle with momentary spherical blue flame and with long lasting half spherical blue flame. The author further found the existence of radicals, diatomic carbon and methylidyne in the blue flame of a candle by conducting spectrophotometric analysis that lead to a proposal of new polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and soot formation mechanism of radical polymerizations reported in this presentation. That is suggestive to improve woody biomass combustion.
