Abstract

Small-scale experiments were conducted to improve the conversion efficiency of diesel generator (6 kVA) by introducing a battery energy storage system (5.5 kW - 5 kWh) to power to a load. Fuel consumption rate and various conversion efficiencies were evaluated for the load (0-5000 W) using the voltage or the state of charge (SOC) control of the lithium-ion battery for starting/stopping the generator. The results showed that significant improvement effect in low load area, for example the energy efficiency under SOC control was 344% better than that of the generator alone at a load of 300 W.
