Abstract

Aiming at understanding more efficient and cleaner combustion of woody biomass, and providing the combustor that emit less carbonous harmful substance such as carbon monoxide and soot, the author is investigating methods to burn a candle, that is composed of more simple constituent resin, under the earth’s gravity at ordinary temperature and atmosphere pressure. In the course of this study, the author found the method to burn a candle with momentary spherical blue flame and with long lasting half spherical blue flame and the existence of diatomic carbon and methylidyne radicals in the blue flame of a candle that lead to a proposal of new polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and soot formation mechanism of radical polymerizations and hydrocarbon combustion reaction. Those radical reaction gave an insight into a proposal of a cellulose combustion reaction presented in this report that is suggestive to improve woody biomass combustion.
