Abstract
Three papameters: waste utilization ratio (WUR), regional recycling ratio (RRR) and organic feedback ratio (OFR) were introduced to evaluate and develop the Sustainable Region System (SRS) using farm land organic waste management. Main results were obtained as follows.
1) WUR was defined as a ratio of the amount of utilizing organic waste to the net amount of organic waste produced in the relevant region, characterizing its agricultural system in linkage with organic waste management systems.
2) RRR was defined as a ratio of the amount of organic waste used in the relevant region to the total amount of utilizing organic waste, and this value was influenced by factors, such as performance of waste composting facilities and balance between demand and supply.
3) OFR meant a ratio of the amount of recycling organic fertilizer to the net amount of fertilizer applied in the field, and moreover it could show how much degree the fertilizer was supplied from the outside. The net amount of fertilizer applied was not usually equal to the minimum or profitable requirement of fertilizer in the field with specific soil conditions.
4) Using the parameters WUR, RRR and OFR, flows of organic waste in the region of both H-town in Tohoku and K-town in Kyusyu can be abstracted and analyzed towards the development of SRS.
