Abstract

This study investigated changes in the oral condition of severe stroke patients admitted to a convalescent rehabilitation ward(CRW)over time and factors affecting oral condition at discharge. The subjects were 101 severe stroke patients admitted to the CRW between February 2021 and December 2022. The subjects’oral condition was assessed at admission, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, and at discharge to investigate changes in oral condition. In addition, to investigate oral condition at discharge, the median total score of the Oral Health Assessment Tool Japanese version(OHAT-J)at discharge was calculated, and patients were divided into two groups:low and high scores, and each item was compared. The OHAT-J total score significantly improved at all time points compared to admission, and age and oral intake at discharge were significant factors affecting oral condition at discharge. These results suggest the importance of oral health management with the goal of oral intake through multidisciplinary collaboration.
