Abstract
Our review of gastric cancer cases from the radiological screening for gastric cancer conducted in Nara Prefecture last year suggests that, in comparison with the past reports, all gastritis cases were associated with Helicobacter Pylori (hereinafter referred to as Hp). Based on the fact that many cases which had been diagnosed as normal at the previous radiological gastric cancer screening contained Hp gastritis, we tried to introduce a new diagnostic criterion for the interpretation of radiographs as well as a new diagnostic category, in an attempt to detect as many Hp gastritis cases as possible in the high-risk group for gastric cancer. Although popularizing this new criterion for the interpretation of radiographs and new diagnostic category will remain a challenge for the time being, we expect that the accuracy of gastric cancer screening will be enhanced by using this new criterion, which recognizes and reflects the HP gastritis cases into the practical diagnosis categories.
