Abstract
It is necessary to perform accurate radiography of the remnant stomach after gastrectomy in a gastric mass survey. The important point is to give barium meal with effervescent granules simultaneously to the patient and to minimize outflow of barium meal from the remnant stomach into the duodenum and so that the barium meal adheres sufficiently to the gastric mucosa by repeated right-handed rotation of the patient.
The equality of films, the adherence of barium meal, and the expansion of the remnant stomach obtained are improved in 14% of B-I cases; however, no preferable result was obtained in B-II cases. A high quality of X-ray examination for the remnant stomach in a gastric mass survey is not only useful for detection of residual cancer of the stomach but also contributes to reduction in X-ray exposure for patients. We report here our conventional procedure of X-ray examination for the remnant stomach in a mass survey.
