Abstract
During the period from April 1st 2014 to December 31th, 10,959 people underwent examination with a small-diameter endoscope for gastric cancer screening at Utsunomiya-Memorial Hospital. We investigated the rates of: cancer detection, early cancer, biopsy, detection accuracy and false-negative cancers. Gastric cancer was detected in a total of 22 cases: 21 cases of early gastric cancer and only 1 case of advanced cancer. The detection rate of gastric cancer was 0.20% and the rate of early gastric cancer was 95.5 % (21/22). ESD was performed in 15 cases of 20 early gastric cancers except for 1 untraceable case and an operation was performed for the remaining 5 cases. The rate of biopsy was 7.01% (773/10959) and the accuracy was 2.8% (22/773).
While effective cancer screening was performed in my hospital, endoscopic anamnesis of less than 3 years was recognized in 13 cases of 22 detected cancers. And the false-negative rate was 59%. We should develop a better system of screening with a small-diameter endoscope.
