The purpose of cancer screening is to reduce cancer deaths in the target population. It is a program that guides those suspected of cancer to appropriate diagnosis and treatment, and others to the next screening. Quality control is an important initiative to maximize benefits and minimize harms. In 2023, cancer screening control, including quality control, was reviewed as part of the “Property of Cancer Screening,” in which a policy was presented aiming to ensure that all cancer screenings are conducted appropriately, regardless of whether they are population-based or workplace screenings. In order to reduce cancer mortality, it is desirable to develop a system for effectively conducting all cancer screenings, regardless of whether they are population-based or workplace screenings, with an understanding of cancer countermeasures and health promotion measures such as primary prevention and early detection, and to properly implement quality control programs.
