The seeds of rice (Oryza saliva) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa) taken as representatives of the monocotyledon and dicotyledon groups of plants were germinated in situ under high pressures of compressed air and nitrogen. It was revealed that both plants can germinate at pressures much higher than the atmospheric pressure - typical for their growth. Oxygen contained in air seems to have a negative influence on the germination of rice. This effect was much smaller for alfalfa.
