Shock compression experiments on single crystal NiO grown by the Verneuil method have been carried out up to 132GPa using both propellant and two-stage light-gas guns. The shock states, recorded with the inclined mirror method, were analyzed by the free-suncce approximation and impedance-match solution. No discontinuous volume decrease was observed along the Hugoniot, indicating that NiO remains with the rocksalt structure to 132GPa. The isothermal compression curve, reduced from the Hugoniot, yields a bulk modulus of K = 184±5GPa assuming K'=4, which is consistent with the results of recent hydrostatic compression experiments and theoretical calculations.
