The Significance in Publishing History of Government Publications and “Semi-government Publications” on Western Studies at the End of Edo Period: as a Bridge to Modern Publications

Abstract

This paper tried to clarify the background and the influence on Modern publications of government publications and “semi-government publications” on Western studies at the end of Edo Period. The easing of regulations on Western studies and the installing of a letterpress printing machine activated their publication. It became clear many titles in the educational filed in the early Meiji period were written following them.
