Abstract
The present study estimated the outflow of recalcitrant organic carbons from Ashikaga City, Tochigi, Japan, based on the laboratory measurements of total organic carbons (TOC) and dissolved organic carbons (DOC) as well as the field measurements of the river discharges of the Watarase river. The estimates of TOC and DOC became 4.6 g/s and 3.5g/s, respectively. The results correspond to 46% of TOC outflow and 47% of DOC outflow from the city. The per capita outflow units of recalcitrant TOC and DOC from the city were estimated to be about 2.5g/d and 1.9g/d.
