Abstract
An urban development exhibiting a very complex structure is investigated for actual cities by taking into account of transportation systems, especially railroad networks. The purpose of this study is to analyze a mechanism of urban growth using the changes in fractal dimensions. We try to investigate the process of urban structure with fractal dimensions which are measure of complexity for geometrics. We use the data in Kanto area from 1960 to 1995. Finally, we propose a cellular automata model that imitates the real urban development, and compare with the actual urban structure.
