Abstract
A modification of some algorithms due to Alefeld et al. is presented for enclosing a simple zero of a nonlinear equation f(x)=0 in a given finite interval. Alefeld et al. make use of both the bisection method and the Newton-Raphson method as well as inverse cubic interpolation to enclose a simple zero in a stable manner. Numerical experiments show that our modified method compares well with the methods of Alefeld et al..
