Abstract
In the wake of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake hitting the nation on March 11, 2011, NHK has kept on producing and telecasting programs, produced on different themes or from varied standpoints. Programs include documentary or otherwise, starting out with ad hoc reportage, and later delving into mechanisms of earthquakes and tsunami in scientific details, or analyzing people's behavioral psychology at times of earthquake disasters, or pursuing the current status of debris and waste disposal and reconstruction tasks, or featuring musical entertainment programs for local reconstruction. Meanwhile, NHK has also been engaged as a broadcasting station in covering the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake on the Internet. In this broadband age when milliards of people acquire information through moving image contents on the Internet, providing Internet contents, besides broadcasting, has become critically important for any broadcasting station. Here, I relate how I have been working in reporting the disaster through the Internet on the theme of "Digital Archives of the East Japan Earthquake and disaster" where I serve as the executive editor.
