Abstract

In this study, we focused on the diversity of first and second personal pronouns in Japanese, and statistically analyzed how they are used in spoken and written Japanese. In addition, in order to investigate the roles of pronouns, the pragmatic functions of the sentences were classified, and analyzed. The results show that although the frequency of the pronouns is higher and the vocabulary is richer in written language, there is no significant difference in the patterns and roles of the pronouns between spoken and written utterances.
