First of all, this paper clarifies the possibilities and limitations of perspectives that have been used in
information systems(IS) research and practice so far, that is, technical determinism deterministic perspective and social constructionism. In order to overcome the limitations and problems of those perspectives, the characteristics of ‘constitutive entanglement’ and ‘imbrication’ are explored and their relationships are delved, which have been proposed under the umbrella concept of sociomateriality. Finally, regarding the construction of IS design methodology and doing practical research in today's advanced IT environment, it has been suggested that relying on sociomaterial perspectives characterized by ‘imbrication’ rather than ‘constitutive entanglement’ has a remarkable potentiality.
