Abstract
We evaluated the ability of an automated remote system that uses a small portable sensor for coaching inline-skating. Motion data collected from a sensor attached to the body are transmitted via smartphone to a server, where the kinematic features of the motion are analyzed and appropriate real-time feedback is provided to the skater via the smartphone. Feedback is determined by comparing the kinematic features of stroke duration and both the angles and transitions of upper body directions with target values. The remote coaching system was evaluated by comparing inline-skating movements in three trials: pre trial without feedback, trial with feedback and post trial without feedback. The results showed that skating movement improved both test and post trials.
