Ninety-four patients (117 knees) with varus gonarthrosis who had had a high tibial osteotomy were followed for at least five years, the average follow-up being 6.5 years.
At the last follow-up, all of the knees had approximately the same range of motion that they had had preoperatively, but considerable loss of motion was remarkable in ten knees treated by osteotomy and synovectomy.
Statistically there was no significant difference between intermediate and late results. The rate of deterioration was 8.5 per cent. The incidence of deterioration in our series was not as high as that of European and American reports.
We still believe that the alignment obtained by osteotomy is important in bringing about good long-term results.
