Abstract

Objective of this study is the development of a simple phantom of herniated nucleus pulposus based on the optical properties with a wavelength range of 350- 1000 nm. This phantom is useful to evaluate the effectiveness of laser therapy to lumbar disc herniation in vitro experiment. It is made from gelatin, distilled water, elastin and skim milk. The optical properties of this phantom equally matched the optical properties of a human herniated nucleus pulposus. This phantom is useful to evaluate the optimal therapeutic wavelength for laser assisted percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy and percutaneous endoscopic cervical discectomy.
