Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) of the saphenous varicose veins has been spreading rapidly. In the future, the application of EVLA beyond the indications of the Japanese guidelines will increase. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the laser ablation combined with foam sclerotherapy (FS) for recurrent varicose veins with neovascularization after stripping surgery and percutaneous ablation of perforators (PAPs) for chronic venous insufficiency due to incompetent perforating veins. Occlusion rate of EVLA combined with FS at one month, 6 months and one year was 97.0%, 86.4% and 72.0%. Occlusion rate of PAPs was 92.9%, 77.4% and 66.3%. Studies with adequate therapeutic parameter and proper design are needed to better define the role of EVLA in these fields.
