Abstract

Toning treatment by Q Switch Nd:YAG Laser (“QYT”) on melasma is effective in removing the melanin granule in the keratinocyte and in partially suppressing cytokine which stimulates the melanocyte. However, conservative therapy such as, skin care with tranexamic acid and light shielding, should be the priority method effective in yielding a sedative effect upon the melanocyte. While QYT requires care in the frequency of radiation under the conservative therapy, it has often proven to be effective in the treatment of melasma. Other treatment methods are necessary for some melasma with resistivity to QYT. Skin Rejuvenation therapy such as, Low reactive Level Laser Therapy, are sometimes effective in controlling melasma. It is therefore important to determine the applicability of QYT and other treatment methods based on the image diagnosis, and to develop a treatment plan that accommodates both Skin Rejuvenation and melasma treatments.
