Abstract
Laser refractive surgeries using the ArF excimer laser, a frequency-quinrupled Nd: YAG laser, a picosecond Nd: YLF laser, a Ho: YAG laser, and an Er: YAG laser are reviewed. For each type of the laser, the interaction with corneal tissne is discussed. Also, their history of laboratory and clinical studies are described. Although excimer laser PRK is the only practical modality so far available in the clinical setting, the other lasers may also be available in the near future with further research and development.
