Abstract
The surface coating of the dental enamel, which was expected to increase the absorption of the laser light at enamel surface, and the various types of laser beam were analyzed to obtain the optimum surface coating and the beam to increase the enamel acid resistance. It revealed that the surface coating is essential to increase the acid resistance of enamel by using the visible to near-infrared laser. When the acid resistance of enamel was obtained, some morphological changes of surface enamel was observed in some extent. This findings was characteristic for pulse type of laser, such as the deep crack by continuous or first repetition pulse and the shallow surface mosaic-like pattern by pulse laser. Best choice of the coating and the laser beam was the irradiation by nomal pulse of YAG laser coated with water-proof india ink. Various biological dye coatings such as melanin or ink of cuttlefish made on an experimental basis, were also useful to obtain the acid resistance.
