Abstract
Mumpsvirus (0.2 cc), Showa B, D and Enders strain were inoculated into amniotic cavities of 7 days' hatched eggs of white leghorn.
Egg mebrane and embryo of 12 th day of incubation were embedded quickly in fixative solution for histologic and electron-optic studies.
The cases which revealed servere damage on histologic examination, showed similar findings on electroneoptic examination essentially.
Inclusion bodies and mumpsvirus were found by the electronoptic examination. The former possessed high electron density in protoplasma and nucleus of liver cell. The latter were seen in chain or scatterring arrangement along mitochondria membrane.
Through the experiment, the former conception on the degeneration of cells was discussed and more detailed results compared with the known histological changes were obtained.
In each liver cells considerable variaties of vacuolar degeneration which may called solitary vacuolar degeneration were found. These findings will be of importance for the morphologic observation of degenerative cells and of significance for the study of the mechanism of infection of mumpsvirus morphologically.
