Abstract
Effect of 19-nor-testosterone phenylpropionate (Durabolin) on body weight of premature infants was studied.
16 premature infants administrated 5 mg of Durabolin a week were compared with Holt's standard body weight of premature infants and with control group, 26 nonmedicated premature infants.
The physiological decrease ratio of body weight of medicated group was 2.9%, while that of control group was 8.1%.
At 2.5 days following the medication, they were incline to gain the body weight and at 3.5-4.5 days they were recovered to the birth-lével. In case of control group the gain of body weight started from 3 days or more after the birth.
Durabolin is very effective for the increase of body weight of premature infants and it is not necessary to use daily but weekly.
