Abstract
The authors studied the fluctuation of mentally and physically functions of some heavy industrial workers who were working in shift. The results are as follows:
1) The average working intensity was light and sleeping hours were shortened in the shift, but the distribution of working hours and quantity of work were not different between day and night.
2) The phenomena of physical fatigue cleanly appeared after night shift and they were acompanied with para-sympaticotonic signs; decrease of puls rate, fall of diastolic blood pressure, fall of tapping and decrease of leucocytes.
3) The complaints of subjective symptoms, especially neuro-sensorial and physical symptoms, increased after work, but mental symptoms were not increased. The complaints of subjective symptoms had a tendency of increase after night shift, but this tendency was not decisive.
