Abstract
Agranulocytosis and granulocytopenea were not rare when sulfa drugs were first introduced. They showed a remarkable reduce thereafter and only sporadic cases are seen accompanying in acute infectious diseases nowadays. The one experienced by the present authors was a boy of 9 years and 2 months suffering from sepsiss. The patient was hospitalized with the main complaints of high fever, subcutaneous hemorrhage and epistaxis. A powerful new chemotherapy was initiated in combination with steroid treatment (Chloramphenicol succinate i, v., Dimethylphenylpenicillin i. v., Dexamethazone i. v. and per os together with blood transfusions and hemostatic agents) .
The patient died on the 14th day after oncet of the disease. Findings of the post moatem autopsy revealed the invasion of staphylococcus into various organs.
Considerations were given on a total of 16 cases reported in the field of pediatrics in Japan in the past 15 years. There were only but 2 cases of those complicated with infectious diseases among them. Such complications, however, show a tendency to increase in the future.
