Serial determination of concentration of antibiotics in saliva were performed after intramuscular administration in infants and children with special reference to Kanamycin (KM) .
Results were as follows ;
1) With regard to age distribution, highest concentration of KM in saliva was seen in the latter part of neonatal period, diminishing gradually thereafter as they grow.
2) The elevation of KM concentraton in saliva after administration followed by those in blood. The highest concentration rate of KM in blood showed ten to fifteen times higher than those of in saliva. However, higher concentration of KM in saliva were observed as compared to those in blood in several subjects temporarily.
3) Concentration of KM in mixed saliva one hour after administration revealed three times higher than in parotoid saliva in rabbits.
4) In eight patients among 12 with epidemic parotitis, concentration of KM in saliva showed higher than those of healthy children.
