A study was made of histological changes in the angle of the anterior chamber of rabbit occuring during a 6-month period following electrolysis thereof and an attempt was also made to determine if there is any difference between histological changes produced with the use of anode applied onto that tissue and those with the use of cathode.
Histological changes thus induced in this portion of the eye were found to be essentially the same regardless of whether the surgical treatment was done using anode or cathode.
At one month after the treatment the sclera is dropsical and swollen, showing lymphocytic infiltration and hyperplasia of collagen fibers. At 3 months proliferation and thickening of collagen fibers are prominent at the site of surgical treatment, but the sclera is not as yet of its original structure, being composed of a loose network of fibrous meterial with much of vacant spaces contained. After 6 months the sclera is found to have restored its proper structure almost completely but without evidence of cicatrization.
