Two cases of hyperthermia of unknown etiology developed with general anesthesia were reported. The first case was a 27-year-old male and the second case was a 5-year-old boy. Both cases of anesthesia were induced by intravenous administration of thiamylal sodium and succinylcholine chloride and maintained with nitrous oxide-oxygen-halothane. Hyperthermia was noted after 3 hrs and 4 hrs respectively after begining of operation. Body surface cooling was performed utilizing ice bag, alchol packs and cooling blanket. Furthemore in the first case, metabolic and respiratory acidosis was corrected by administration of sodium bicarbonate and passive hyperventilation. Both cases were cured and postoperative course were uneventful. The second case was anesthetized successfully with nitrous oxide-oxygen and diallyl-nor-toxiferine during reoperation without any accident.
