Abstract
A 66-year-old male was brought to our emergency clinic for treatment of injuries resulting from a traffic accident. Abdominal injuries were thoroughly examined by ultrasonic diagnostic methods. Results indicated a mass in his right kidney, and he was admitted to our hospital for more comprehensive examination. The mass was diagnosed as kidney cancer. Endoscopy of the upper alimentary canal for preoperative systemic exploration disclosed Yamada type III polyps, about 5 mm across, at the greater curvature of the antrum and the lesser curvature of the inferior body ; and a 32×7 mm Yamada type IV polyp, red and lobulated, at the lesser curvature of the inferior body. Hot biopsy and polypectomy were then performed. Histpathologically, the Yamada type III polyps were hyperplastic and the Yamada type IV polyp had hyperplastic change with moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma at the top. This suggested a hyperplastic polyp developing into cancer. We present this case as a relative rarity, a hyperplastic polyp developing into cancer and renal cancer.
